110,461 trees planted in 1 minute
In the spirit of Malaysia Boleh, and to save the enviroment for future generations, a nationwide event, called the “Millennium Tree Planting”, was mooted.
Organised by the National Landscape Department, Ministry of Housing and Local Government, Kuala Lumpur City Hall and the municipal councils in all the
states, and the Tree Planting Group, the event took place on October 15, 2000, to celebrate World Habitat Day 2000.
This historic event was initiated by the then Prime Minister, YAB Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad at Taman Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. Participants from all levels of community, namely, government and private agencies, non-government organisations, educational institutions, security bodies and volunteer clubs were stationed throughout 152 locations in the country.
In tandem with the radion signal of RTM broadcast throughout Malaysia, 110,461 trees were planted in one minute at the same time, creating not just a Malaysia record, but also the world record that still
stands as of today
